Internship Details
This internship is offered in partnership with Loop Abroad and the application and fee payment will be processed by them.
Eligibility requirement: 
Must be 18 years old or over and preferably with least one year of undergraduate study completed, with a relevant scientific major such as biology, marine science is desired  but not essential. Interns must have a genuine interest in marine conservation and commitment to hands-on work at the organization.
University Credit:
Cerca Abroad in cooperation with Webster University (Athens Campus) is able to offer a transferable US university credit option for all in-person and remote internship programs. Students can receive 1 academic credit for every 50 hours of internship (4 week / 40 hour per week internships lead to 3cr, 5 week to 4cr). The fee is $465 per credit (inc. application fees).

Marine Conservation Internship

This is an in-country hands-on internship program with provided shared housing and local team support.

This internship will involve tasks around 9 core teams (marine mammal research & conservation, marine ecology, GIS & remote sensing, environmental law & policy, terrestrial research & conservation, microplastic and laboratory projects, Aegean Marine Life Sanctuary, Media, PR & graphic design, environmental education). The team is made-up by professional marine specialists & volunteers that participate in international marine conservation & educational projects around Europe, eliminating any language barriers and offering international expertise. This internship requires self-motivation and self-guided work.

Most of the activities are focused on practical conservation field work but may include office-based tasks too. Typical tasks are: data acquisition on marine species, water quality and coastal biodiversity, surveying, human impact studies, environmental policies, GIS and remote sensing, awareness campaigns, wildlife photography and video, graphic design.

Our marine conservation internship program offers the opportunity to gain top quality experience interning on the marine conservation organization. With valuable experience, you’ll develop your skills and understanding of different conservation aspects.

We will review your application and if we accept you on this internship we will ask you to pay a non-refundable deposit of US$250 to secure your place. The remaining of your internship fees (less your initial US$250 deposit payment) will be due no less than 60 days before your internship start date. Prior to your arrival you will also be asked to pay a $400 security deposit which is fully refunded after check-out within 30 days if everything is in order.

Internship Details

This internship is offered in partnership with Loop Abroad and the application and fee payment will be processed by them.

Internships start on the first and third Monday of each month and arrival is at Samos Airport. The program offers airport transfer from the Samos Airport to the host site. Upon arrival a team member will great interns and escort them to the accommodation. For interns arriving in Samos at an earlier date, an accommodation at extra cost (US$55/night) can be provided and subject to availability.

Adequate information about the location and hosting institution will be sent before arrival. It includes information about the place, local culture, rules, emergency contact numbers and the local team.

The accommodation is fully furnished (single or double beds), with WiFi, shared with 1-5 other mixed-sex interns. The last night of the accommodation is the Thursday of the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Thursday.

During the internship at Samos island the institute will offer daily meals for free (breakfast supplies and lunch/dinner cooked by the in-house chef).

Interns should budget 3-5 Euros for breakfast (about US$5-7) and 5-10 Euros for a simple lunch (about US$5-12). Greece has many dining options and from many different cuisines ranging from budget to high end depending on the intern’s needs. Most places accept credit/debit cards but interns are advised to carry cash in Euros.

As for Greece, perhaps there is no need for an introduction. It is one of the most popular and safest destinations in the world. Situated in southeast Europe it is blessed with sun, friendly people, rich cuisine and a truly unique landscape that spans from green forests to the deep blue sea. With its 2,500 years of history and its 1,400 islands there is plenty to discover in Greece and it will satisfy the most demanding visitor. Greece is one of the warmest countries in Europe with long, hot & dry summers and mild winters. The popular time to visit Greece is between May to September end. Occasionally heatwaves may occur with temperatures peaking (1-2 days) around 105°F / 41°C.
