Immerse yourself in the fast-evolving field of Additive Manufacturing (AM) and gain specialized knowledge in 3D printing technologies by interning at a leading engineering research facility. This program offers engineering students and recent graduates the opportunity to explore AM applications across various industries and understand how these technologies contribute to sustainable production.

Program Overview

This internship focuses on analyzing additive manufacturing technologies and studying their practical applications. Interns will work with experienced engineers to review real-world case studies, covering everything from rapid prototyping to large-scale production. Additionally, they will explore the integration of AM with environmental sustainability, learning how innovative manufacturing approaches can reduce waste and improve efficiency.

Interns will develop a comprehensive understanding of different 3D printing methods, including material selection, design optimization, and production workflows. They will also have the opportunity to observe professional engineers in action, gaining insights into how AM technologies are applied in both research and industrial contexts.

Key Learning Experiences
  • Technology Analysis: Study various 3D printing technologies, including FDM (Fused Deposition Modeling), SLA (Stereolithography), and SLS (Selective Laser Sintering).
  • Case Study Review: Analyze case studies covering applications of additive manufacturing in industries such as aerospace, automotive, healthcare, and consumer goods.
  • Sustainability Integration: Explore how AM can contribute to environmentally sustainable manufacturing by reducing material waste, energy consumption, and production lead times.
  • Design Optimization: Learn how to optimize designs for 3D printing by understanding the unique capabilities and limitations of AM processes.
  • Hands-on Observation: Observe real-time 3D printing operations and post-processing techniques, gaining a practical perspective on how AM technologies are used in professional settings.
Why Choose This Internship?
  • Specialized Knowledge: Acquire in-depth knowledge of additive manufacturing and how it is transforming traditional production processes.
  • Sustainability Focus: Develop an understanding of how AM can drive sustainable practices in manufacturing, a key skill in today’s environmentally conscious industries.
  • Industry-Relevant Experience: Gain exposure to current and emerging applications of 3D printing across various sectors, preparing you for future engineering roles.
  • Guidance from Experts: Work with professionals who have extensive experience in additive manufacturing, ensuring high-quality mentorship throughout the internship.

The accommodation is fully furnished (single or double beds), with WiFi, shared with 1-6 other same-sex interns, and located in safe areas with easy access to public transport and close to the hospital. The last night of the accommodation is the Friday night of the final week, leaving interns free to depart on Saturday. Private apartments can be arranged in advance, if requested and subject to availability.

Internships start on Mondays and interns have a choice to participate to a program between a minimum of 2 weeks or up to a maximum of 12 weeks .

The program fee includes a free airport pickup on the Sunday before the Monday start date. To qualify for the free pickup interns are required to arrive between 9am-6pm. At the airport interns will be welcomed and transferred to their housing. For interns arriving at an earlier date, a pickup maybe provided if requested and subject to availability.

Adequate information about the city and hosting institution will be sent before arrival. It includes information about the city, local culture, rules, emergency contact numbers and the local team.

Interns should budget 30 Euros (about US$35) for a 30-day unlimited public transport card, 3-5 Euros for breakfast (about US$5-7) and 5-10 Euros for a simple lunch (about US$5-12). Greece has many dining options and from many different cuisines ranging from budget to high end depending on the intern’s needs. As for Greece, perhaps there is no need for an introduction. It is one of the most popular and safest destinations in the world. Situated in southeast Europe it is blessed with sun, friendly people, rich cuisine and a truly unique landscape that spans from green forests to the deep blue sea. With its 2,500 years of history and its 1,400 islands there is plenty to discover in Greece and it will satisfy the most demanding visitor. Greece is one of the warmest countries in Europe with long, hot & dry summers and mild winters. The popular time to visit Greece is between May to September end. Occasionally heatwaves may occur with temperatures peaking (1-2 days) around 105°F / 41°C.
