Join a groundbreaking marine conservation initiative in one of Greece’s most bio-diverse ecosystems. This hands-on internship offers the unique opportunity to contribute to vital research and help protect vulnerable marine species while immersed in the stunning natural beauty of Amvrakikos Wetland National Park.

Program Overview

Located in the heart of Greece’s Amvrakikos Wetland National Park, this internship places you at the center of essential marine conservation efforts. As a participant, you’ll actively engage in field research, focusing on the monitoring of sharks and rays—key species that play a crucial role in maintaining healthy marine ecosystems.

In addition to species-specific research, interns contribute to broader conservation activities, including local fishery monitoring and biodiversity assessments through scuba diving, snorkeling, stand-up paddling (SUP), and the use of baited remote underwater cameras (BRUVs). No prior scientific background is necessary—just a passion for marine conservation and a desire to make a real impact.

Key Learning Experiences
  • Marine Biodiversity Research: Collect and analyze data on shark and ray populations, contributing to long-term conservation strategies.
  • Fisheries Monitoring: Visit local ports to gather critical data on bycatch and fishery practices, supporting sustainable marine resource management.
  • Field Surveys: Conduct underwater surveys using snorkeling and BRUVs to monitor species presence and behavior.
  • Drone Surveys: Participate in aerial monitoring to track fishing activities and assess coastal ecosystems.
  • Laboratory Research: Assist with bio analysis and data interpretation to gain insight into species’ diets and ecosystem roles.
